Racing

Alongside our regular club rides (see our social media for details), some of us like to push ourselves that little bit harder in competition. In the club we encourage any members that want to have a go at racing, and many members have decades of experience racing on the road and the track. We run regular internal club championships with trophies up for grabs, as well as some members racing in open events.

Below are some of the disciplines our members race in, but we would be happy to support you if you'd like to try something new!

Time Trials
Also known as the race of truth, time trials consist of trying to set the fastest time on a given course, normally over standardised distances.
These races are normally conducted individually, although some events can involve a team effort against the clock.

Road Racing
Bunch events that take place on the open road over a pre-determined lap or laps. Riders sign on at a HQ before the race begins in a ‘neutralised’ form – allowing the formation of a group /  peloton before racing commences.

Track Racing
Track racing takes place on purpose built oval tracks with banking all the way around. These may be indoor or outdoor tracks, but racing is always on fixed-gear track bikes with no brakes. Races are typically quite short (~15 minutes) but come in many different formats such as Scratch races, Madison, Points races and more.
We are affiliated as a club to the national governing bodies British Cycling and Cycling Time Trials.
